Étienne Pajeot was born into a Mirecourt bow-making family and learned the craft in the workshop of his father, Louis Simon Pajeot. His own brand appears from about 1815, when his earliest bows still followed the family model with pointed heads and low, elongated frogs.

During the 1820s Pajeot developed a more recognisably personal language. His heads became narrower yet broader in profile, while his frogs rose in height and were sometimes made in ivory. Buttons could be unusually short and finished with octagonal rings. These details were never merely decorative: they belonged to a searching, inventive approach to construction.

Pajeot remained in Mirecourt and became one of the town’s defining masters. His workshop supplied bows to leading dealers and makers, and his influence can be traced through Nicolas Rémy Maire, Claude Joseph Fonclause and others connected with the Mirecourt tradition.
