Born in Mirecourt, Dominique Peccatte first trained for another trade before moving to Paris in 1826 on the recommendation of Nicolas Vuillaume. He entered the workshop of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, where Jean-Pierre-Marie Persoit helped transform him into a first-rate bow maker.

Around 1836 Peccatte left Vuillaume to work for François Lupot. After Lupot’s death in 1838, Peccatte took over the Paris workshop and entered the period most closely associated with his greatest work. His bows fused Persoit’s discipline and Tourte’s structural understanding with broader, more square heads and a forceful playing character.

Peccatte returned to Mirecourt in 1847 and continued making bows while also attending to his vineyards. He formally retired from bow making around 1872. His output is varied and spontaneous, reflecting a craftsman who worked with speed and confidence rather than rigid repetition.
