The bow
A rare work from Knopf’s Moscow period.
We are pleased to present a fine violin bow by the distinguished German bow maker August Moritz Knopf (1857–1893), one of the most important representatives of the celebrated Knopf dynasty.
Bows by August Moritz Knopf are highly regarded by professional musicians, collectors and leading experts for their exceptional craftsmanship, noble tonal qualities and remarkable combination of strength, flexibility and refinement.
This particular bow is especially noteworthy because it was made during Knopf’s Moscow period—an exceptionally rare and highly desirable chapter of the maker’s career.
Crafted from fine pernambuco and mounted in silver, the bow offers excellent balance, refined elasticity, precise articulation and a rich, sophisticated tone with a wide palette of colours. It responds beautifully in both virtuoso repertoire and lyrical cantabile playing.
The bow is preserved in superb condition and remains a beautifully maintained original example.
